Cardiovascular Center that provides 24-hour urgent coronary intervention for acute myocardial infarction

The first grade for three years in acute myocardial infarction treatment

The Catholic medical university of Korea Incheon St. Mary’s hospital directly contacts cardiovascular center as heart blood-vessel patient arrives, and all system is processed for urgent cardiovascular patient.

The cardiovascular center in the Catholic medical university of Korea Incheon St. Mary’s hospital consists of twenty doctors from internal medicine of heart and cardiothoracic surgery and is made for cooperating process for patients. As patient arrives at the emergency room, professional team of the cardiovascular center is directly contacted and all the examination is done in the favor of patients so that urgent inspection is possible.

It takes about half an hour to diagnose the patient and decide which treatment should be done.

The reason for this fast treatment is because this emergency action is directly related to the life of a patient.

As result, the team members of cardiovascular center of Incheon St. Mary’s hospital live near the hospital. Although it is not an easy task, the doctors understand that quick action is required in order to save patients’ lives.

Thanks to this system, the Catholic medical university of Korea Incheon St. Mary’s hospital has been rated as the first grade facility for the last three years since 2008 on the evaluation over acute myocardial infarction done by Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service. The evaluation in 2010 is especially important since superior general hospitals were also considered.

The acute myocardial infarction patients who were hospitalized through emergency room were surveyed. The number of surveyed institutions was 189 total (44 of superior general hospital and 145 of general hospital), and only 29 hospitals received the first grade.

The evaluation covered the treatments from first day of 2010 till last day of the year and considered seven categories including the number of acute myocardial infarction hospitalization, the rate of injecting clotbuster in 30 minutes, the rate of practicing primary PCI in 90 minutes, the rate of prescribing aspirin when leaving the hospital, the rate of prescribing beta blocker when leaving the hospital, and the rate of death in 30 days from starting hospitalization.
